Anne Main raises her concerns at the £1.5 million cost associated with Parliament returning for a short two-week sitting in September and calls for a more efficient programme of sittings of the House.

Mrs Anne Main (St Albans) (Con): Further to an answer that I received in September, in which the House of Commons Commission said that it costs the public purse a further £1.5 million for us to come back for the two-week September sitting, is it not time that we looked carefully at the programme of sittings of the House so as not to cost the public purse an extra £1.5 million?

Mr Heath: ... This is a matter that the hon. Lady ought to put to the Procedure Committee, which is currently looking at the calendar of the House of Commons. She will be able to present her case to that Committee, and we look forward to its report in due course.
