Anne Main: Good news for passengers and Radlett station

Anne Main welcomes decision to include Radlett station in the comprehensive upgrading of train and station facilities.

Anne Main welcomes decision to include Radlett station in the comprehensive upgrading of train and station facilities. It had been announced only as recently as December 2006 that there were no proposal to extend platforms at Radlett to accommodate 12 car trains. But a recent announcement has now revealed that the extension of Radlett platforms will be included in the Network Rail project Scope Definition for key outputs 1 which will ensure the delivery of the project by 2011.

Anne said: "It is welcome news that the Radlett station has now been included. However, it is vital that we have an early funding decision on the Thameslink programme to ensure that the project gets off the buffers.

"For too long the Thameslink 2000 has been stalled by the indecision of the Government, but its recent clearance of the planning system means it now has the green light. I called on the Government earlier this year to make a firm spending commitment and ensure that finances will be available.

"We are hopeful that an announcement on funding will be made this Summer which will ensure the project goes ahead. It is good news that Thameslink Programme will now deliver the capability to run longer trains from Radlett station for the first time. ""
