Last week Anne Main, chair of the all-party group on the prevention of plastic waste, held a meeting alongside other MP’s and Lords to hear what Asda are doing to reduce plastic waste in their supermarkets.
Nikki Dixon, Asda’s head of plastic waste reduction, gave a short speech and took questions from the group. Nikki set out Asda’s three key focus areas to reduce waste; using less plastic in their packaging, recycling more and the sustainable sourcing of materials.
Speaking after the meeting, Anne said, ‘I was very pleased that Nikki came to speak with the group. It was a helpful and informative discussion and it really engaged the group on this incredibly important issue. We all know both retailer and consumer need to help to make this change and I am pleased Asda are focused on reducing the amount of waste packaging and are introducing other new innovative ways to reduce plastic waste.’
