Luton Airport

16th August 2019

Following the recent appointment of Paul Maynard MP as the new aviation minister, Anne Main MP has written to him to request he meets St Albans residents to hear about their frustrations with Luton Airport noise.

Mrs Main has been campaigning on this issue for the last few years, particularly since the introduction of the RNAV flight path from Luton Airport. The RNAV route concentrates departing flights from Luton across a very narrow corridor to the north of her St Albans constituency. This change has meant residents living under or near the flight path are subjected to constant noise disturbances with no respite.

Mrs Main said:

“The new aviation minister needs to understand the strength of feeling locally on this issue. There is due to be major expansion at Luton and Heathrow in the next few years and the government must ensure that this is managed in a way that more fairly distributes out the noise.

“St Albans residents are increasingly being subjected to more and more airplane noise from flights departing from Heathrow Airport too. There is a real urgency to this issue now.

“RNAV has failed. It has concentrated noise unfairly and it has had a significant impact on some residents’ quality of life. I hope this new government will take quick action to ensure residents have their voices heard and expansion is managed in a fair way.”
