Anne Main supported the Director of Public Prosecutions’ policy for prosecutors in respect of cases of encouraging or assisting suicide which, she says, not only protects the vulnerable but also their loved ones who may feel pressured into helping them do something they are deeply unhappy about.
Mrs Anne Main (St Albans) (Con): Not only does the law protect the vulnerable who might be dying or at the end of their lives, it also protects their loved ones, who may feel pressured into helping them do something that they are deeply unhappy about. There is therefore a double protection in the law as it stands.
Mr Amess: I absolutely agree with my hon. Friend, who I know cared for her husband, and therefore has a real feel for this issue, which she might have time to share with the House.
