Thameslink

22nd January 2016

Govia has given St Albans MP, Anne Main, a firm commitment that future train timetables will give priority to the Thameslink service.

The train company, who operate the line running out of St Albans, said that the Thameslink service will be at the centre of the 2018 timetabling, after the St Albans MP sought assurances over the potential impact of a rail freight terminal.

Anne said that, ‘whilst we have been pushing for a firm commitment for some time from Network Rail, Govia has assured me that the Thameslink passenger service will have priority on the line over freight.’

Govia representatives joined Anne Main and Hertsmere MP, Oliver Dowden, to discuss the recent poor service.  The Hertfordshire MPs raised many concerns that local residents had been feeding back.  Anne remarked after the meeting that she ‘discussed many things that have appeared’ in her ‘postbag, such as lack of drivers, delays, short train formations and mechanical problems.

‘Whilst many of the difficulties with delays are outside of Govia’s control, particularly coming from London Bridge, they were very frank about the challenges they face.  Govia has assured me that over the next few months new trains and more drivers will lead to a better service.

‘When the annual usage is nearing 7-and-a-half million and things go wrong, there can be a big impact on passenger services.  And when constituents are paying through the nose to commute, they rightly expect a fast and reliable service.  Hopefully the changes coming down the line in the near future will lead to better experience for the St Albans commuter.’
