Mrs. Anne Main MP
Member of Parliament for St Albans
House of Commons
London, SW1A 0AA
February 2007
Dear Constituent,
Railfreight Planning Meeting– 19th February 07
The next decisive planning meeting for the proposed Railfreight terminal will be held at the Alban Arena at 7pm on 19th February 2007, like the previous meeting it is expected to be very well attended. So I would suggest that if you are considering attending that you allow sufficient time to ensure a reasonable chance of being admitted.
Local campaigners and residents know that they have my full support in resisting this disastrous proposal. As your Member of Parliament I have made a formal request to speak on behalf of all St Albans residents who object to this plan and I will urge the Council to deliver an emphatic refusal.
St Albans District Council will now decide the application and if they give a comprehensive refusal on planning grounds it will give me the tools to take the debate back to Parliament. Given the size and importance of the project, I expect the developers will appeal and this would mean that it would be for the Government to decide.
I will continue to argue in Parliament for any refusal to be upheld. As you may know from previous letters, I have already brought debates to the House of Commons, been in contact with various Government departments, as well as invited Government Ministers to come and see the site. We must all continue to fight this proposal and I will continue to keep you informed of any developments.
Best wishes,
Anne Main MP
