Rail Freight Update – New Planning Application 5/09/0708

I explained in my last email that HelioSlough had lodged a new application with St Albans District Council, and I thought I should write again to let you know that the Council has now decided to continue with the normal planning decision process, the clock is once again ticking and we need you to write to them to pass on your individual objections.  This is an entirely new application and it is important that you object as any objections sent in response to the previous application are no longer valid.

Objections should be directed to the case officer at St Albans District Council at the following address, quoting reference 5/09/0708: Alan Moorhouse, Development Control Manager, Planning and Building Control Department, St Albans District Council, Civic Centre, St Peters Street, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL1 3JE.

In your letter to the Council, you may wish to raise the following issues:

  • The inappropriateness of this development in a Green Belt setting.
  • The availability of other sites which may be more appropriate and have the support of their local communities.
  • The size of the development, and its potential to add unacceptable amounts of traffic and congestion to local roads.
  • The lack of availability of local workforce, which would lead to additional traffic movements by those commuting to the site.
  • The lack of capacity for rail freight on the Midland Main Line.
  • The huge impact on our community and the way of life of local people.
  • The increase in air pollution in the area that such a development would cause.
  • The impact on village life in Park Street.

As usual, I am working with all those involved, in a non-political fashion, to try to achieve the right outcome for our community. Together we can beat this proposal once again and I hope you will consider writing to pass on your objections.

STRiFE is once again leading this campaign and you can keep informed by visiting the STRiFE website at www.strife.biz, or my rail freight specific website at www.no2railfreight.com.  I will also continue to keep you informed as part of my mailing list, as I do with more than 1,000 local people. If you know of anyone who would like to be added to my mailing list please do not hesitate to let me know.

With best wishes,
