The UK has always been at the forefront of technological advancement for the rest of the world.
From the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell in the 1800’s, the television by John Logie Baird in the 1920’s, up to the World Wide Web in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.
And today, we see incredible growth in UK tech companies.
It’s important to note that this is not a London-centric industry, digital clusters such as those in Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Cardiff account for 70 per cent of digital tech investment in 2016.
But we cannot sit still. The very nature of this sector is the pace at which it can change.
Dell predicts the pace of change will be so rapid in the coming years that 85 per cent of jobs in 2030 haven’t even been invented yet.
It is vital that the government continues to focus on this industry and helps to facilitate its growth.
