Sinkhole Update

2nd October 2015
We understand that power to some properties has resumed; others are still without power. There are still no sanitation and water services. Key agencies are down on site again today. Police were on site overnight and security arrangements are in place.

The Council set up a reception centre for those affected at Batchwood Sports Centre on Thursday. This opened again this morning (Friday) at 6am. District Council staff are providing help, information and support to residents.

Works on the sinkhole are scheduled to start today. This work is being undertaken by Hertfordshire County Council's contractors. This is likely to take several days. Utilities work is also required. Survey works are being planned.

We don’t yet know how long people will be affected, but it could be some time so we are advising people to plan accordingly. We will also provide information via Twitter (@StAlbansCouncil).

The District Council can be contacted on 01727 866100.

Information is also available on the Hertfordshire County Council website.
