Anne Main, MP for St Albans, expressed disappointment at figures released today by the Department of Health which revealed local NHS Trusts remain in financial deficit - despite promises from the Government that the 'NHS will return to financial balance at the end of the [financial] year'.
Anne said:
"We were promised by this Government that we would see the NHS returned to financial balance by the end of this year, a promise that many greeted with scepticism.
"Locally, 'financial balance' was always going to be a near impossible target despite the high level of cuts to local services. Persistent Government under-funding of our local NHS means that in St Albans each person has £200 less per head spent on them each year than the national average - this has played a significant part in these continuing deficits.
"Government mismanagement of the NHS has put our Trusts in this position, this has lead to them looking for further cuts to services and embarking on further costly consultation exercises - which cast a cloud of uncertainty over the future local services.""
