New motorbike test changes will mean a lengthy trek

Anne Main has expressed concern about a Government plan which will force motorcyclists to travel to North London to take their motor-cycle test.
Anne Main, MP for St Albans, has expressed concern about a Government plan which will force motorcyclists to travel to North London to take their motor-cycle test.
Motorcyclists were previously able to take the test in St Albans, but, following a European Directive which will mean a change in the manoeuvres which form part of the motorcycle test from 29th September, they will be forced to undertake a thirty mile round trip to a new multi-purpose test centre in Enfield.
Anne said:
"I am concerned that this new plan will mean that motorcyclists will have to travel so far to take their tests, and to practice for them.
With seemingly ever-increasing fuel prices, more people are seeing motorcycles as a practical alternative to car-ownership, but we must ensure that motorcyclists are properly trained and tested and I do not think many potential bikers would relish the lengthy trek to Enfield to practice for their test.
Like the proposed Post Office closures, and closure of the HMRC offices in St Albans this is another Government "rationalisation" plan which will seem completely irrational to those who will be affected.""
