MP Welcomes Progress in Quest for New Hospital

Yesterday the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust announced that it has agreed terms for the purchase of a 38-acre on the Hatfield Business Park for the proposed new hospital for East and North Hertfordshire.

Local MP for St Albans, Anne Main, said of the announcement, 'I welcome the fact that there appears to be a measure of progress in the development of the new hospital, which is planned for 2013. However, due to the issues surrounding PFI funding, I would like assurances that local services in St Albans are maintained, for the immediate future. I would also like a firm commitment from the Minister that this hospital will go ahead for the benefit of my constituents, and not be solely dependant on the financial state of our local Primary Care Trust, which casts a shadow over this exciting scheme, and I will be pressing her for this commitment.'"
