Five businesses in St Albans are already involved in the 2012 Olympic project, information uncovered by St Albans MP Anne Main has revealed.
In answer to a Parliamentary Question from Anne, the Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell also stated that 32 suppliers in Hertfordshire have been awarded contracts, amounting to more than £54m.
Commenting on the news, Anne said:
"I am pleased to hear that local businesses are getting involved in the 2012 Olympic project. Our area has a great deal to offer, and we are renowned for our contribution to the knowledge economy of London, so I am sure that the involvement of local businesses will add value to the London Olympics.
I hope St Albans businesses will continue to bid for contracts, and local people will continue to get involved, as I know our area can play a key role in ensuring that the Olympics in 2012 are a success. I hope our beautiful city will, in turn, benefit from Olympics visitors, as it is a great tourist destination, and will be easily accessible from the Olympic site."
