Gating option may provide solution to Barley Mow problems

Anne Main, MP for St Albans, has reacted to St Albans City and District Council's decision to reject proposals to close Barley Mow Lane.
Residents had hoped the lane would be closed to traffic in an attempt to stop fly-tipping, speeding and anti-social behaviour, but the highways panel rejected this proposal. However, residents were told the decision may be reconsidered if the police are able to provide more evidence of the anti-social behaviour in the area.
Anne said:
"Whilst I understand the disappointment of local residents on this matter, I do feel that it was positive that the committee recognised a gating order as a possible solution if more evidence of the need for this is provided. Potentially, this could provide an equally as effective solution to the problems if correctly managed.
It is vital that some action is taken as the anti-social behaviour of some users of the lane is continuing to cause misery for the residents. My regular monthly meetings with residents about these issues leave me hopeful that we are beginning to have a real focus on the matter and the installation of CCTV cameras at the entrance of the Barley Mow Site is yet another example of the determination locally to curb fly tipping and anti-social behaviour in the area. I will continue to work with them to ensure that all possible action is taken.""
