Anne Main welcomes the support of undecided voters at Friends of the Earth green hustings

19th April 2010

Anne Main, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for St Albans, has welcomed the results of the ‘before and after’ ballot at the recent Friends of the Earth green hustings.

Anne said:
“Clearly there were a significant number of political activists in the room whose allegiance was already decided before the questions, but what I found most striking was that the majority of people who went to the hustings undecided on to vote for came out in my favour in the secret ballot.

“I hope this was due to my strong record on green issues in the House of Commons, my honest answers to the questions posed, and my ability to demonstrate knowledge of the local green economy.”

“I must admit that I was particularly surprised by one of the other candidate’s answers. To suggest covering the roof of the Abbey with solar panels does seems at odds with the claims of the Liberal Democrat candidate of wanting to protect the cultural heritage of St Albans, and with the conservation area in which the Abbey stands. Solar panels have their place, but they must be sensitive to the historic nature of St Albans.”
