Following a Parliamentary debate on the implementation of the Licensing Act Anne Main wrote on the 25th October 2005 to Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, to request a meeting with concerned residents about the effects of Licensing Act would have on St Albans. There was no reply.
A Parliamentary question, tabled by Anne, has revealed that the department has received a "large volume of correspondence" about the Licensing Act which has led to delays in responses to both MPs and members of the public alike.
Anne Main commented: "To take nearly two months to respond to a simple diary request is bizarre. Many other MPs also agree that this is an extraordinary situation.
Having spoken to a Constituent today, Mr. Liaf, and making some enquiries on his behalf I learned that a licensing application within St Albans District Council had temporarily "gone astray". It just shows that even at the top of Government they were unprepared for this Act - despite refusing to delay the implementation.""
