Anne Main MP welcomes Autism Strategy
8th March 2010
Anne Main has welcomed the publication a new Government strategy for adults with autism.
The strategy, titled “Fulfilling and rewarding lives: the strategy for adults with autism in England” is the first adult autism strategy for England, and comes following the Adults with Autism Bill, of which Anne was a co-sponsor.
Anne said:
“This is an important strategy, aiming to improve the lives of adults living with autism, many of whom routinely struggle to access the specialist services they need. I am pleased that this strategy has finally been published as I was a sponsor of the first ever Adults with Autism Bill, as part of a cross-party team of MPs who pressed the Government for action on this issue.
We asked the Government to acknowledge the needs of adults living with Autism, as there have been too many cases where provision for people living with autism in adulthood is lacking. I know this is a very real problem as I have been approached with several cases in my surgery where adults with autism seem to be cast adrift by the system once they leave school.
This autism strategy attempts to address those issues. I am proud to have been involved in this and I hope this strategy will make a real difference to the lives of those living with autism.”
