Anne Main MP publishes declaration of interests

23rd March 2010

Anne Main has today published her declaration of parliamentary candidate's interests, following yesterday's announcement of the scheme. The declaration has also been published, in full, on her website.

The scheme was published by the Government following a report by the Committee on Standards in Public Life, whose recommendations were accepted by all major parties. These questionnaires have been introduced for the first time at this election as a transparent statement of all MP’s and parliamentary candidates outside interests, to allow voters to be aware of any potential conflicts of interest.

Whilst the scheme is voluntary, all candidates have been urged to declare all their business and financial interests.

Anne said:
“I am happy to sign up to this new scheme as I want to make it loud and clear that my interests and concerns are only the people of St Albans, and that I do not have any conflicts of interests.

“Following revelations in this week’s news about politicians and big businesses lobbying to affect policies, laws or regulations, people are angry. My priority has always been the local people I was elected to represent in a full time capacity.”

NOTES:

1. Recommendation 37 of the Committee on Standards in Public Life’s report on MPs’ expenses and allowances says that: ‘All candidates at parliamentary elections should publish, at nomination, a register of interests including the existence of other paid jobs and whether they intend to continue to hold them, if elected. The Ministry of Justice should issue guidance on this in time for the next general election.’

2. The full guidelines, questionnaire and news release can be found here: http://www.justice.gov.uk/news/newsrelease220310a.htm
