Anne Main MP: FCC drivers accept pay deal

13th January 2010

Anne Main MP has reacted to the news that around 70% of First Capital Connect Drivers who are members of the ASLEF union have voted in favour of accepting the company’s pay offer.

First Capital Connect also announced today that they intend to operate the full timetable on the Thameslink route from Monday 18 January, though this is likely to include some short trains and cancellations until 3 February. The company also announced that they have reviewed the planned customer compensation package and are now proposing a revised and increased compensation deal.

Anne said:

“I am pleased that the pay offer has been accepted by the drivers, and in my discussions with Larry Heyman today I stressed once again the need for a speedy return to a fully operational timetable.

I am also pleased that First Capital Connect has responded to my pressure for an enhanced compensation package for commuters over and above that which has already been announced. I understand that further details of this new deal are due to be announced soon.

However, none of this makes up for the fact that there has been a major collapse in passenger confidence in FCC’s ability to run a fast, efficient and value for money train service.

I am planning to meet again with Mary Grant, Marnaging Director of First Rail Division, next week to discuss the management’s part in this whole sorry saga and to find out what measures are being put in place to ensure we do not find ourselves in a similar position again in future.

I am also sending a series of probing Parliamentary questions to the Minister about the Department’s lack of involvement in this matter and the lack of delivery of services by FCC under their franchise.”
