Anne Main MP calls public meeting on Urgent Care Centre decision

26th March 2010

Anne Main MP has called a cross-party public meeting next Tuesday (30th March) at 7.30pm in the Old Town Hall, St Albans, as an opportunity for the public to question senior NHS managers over the decision to scrap the planned Urgent Care Centre at St Albans City Hospital.

Anne will chair the meeting, as MP for St Albans, and has invited representatives of local political parties from across the political spectrum to attend. The joint West Hertfordshire and East and North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trusts will be represented by Simon Rouse, Director of Strategy, and Andrew Parker, Director of Primary Care and Service Redesign, who will answer questions on the decision.

Anne said:
“I felt it was vital before we got into a General Election purdah period, that representatives of the Primary Care Trust came along to meeting to discuss with the public this fundamental shift in provision for St Albans residents.

I am obviously very upset at the apparent direction local health service provision is taking, and this is why I felt it was so important to call this meeting, as an opportunity to air this matter in a public forum so that we could get some answers.

Following my conversation with Anne Walker, Chief Executive of the Trusts, I have been able to arrange this meeting. Whilst I am disappointed she cannot come along personally to address local people, I am pleased that she has made these senior managers available. I know the NHS is a big issue for my constituents, and this is why it is so important everyone gets to have their say on this major issue.”
