2nd March 2011
Businesses in St Albans have been awarded Olympic contracts worth £3.2m, figures uncovered by St Albans MP Anne Main have revealed.
In an answer to a Parliamentary Question from Anne, the Minister for Sport and Olympics, Hugh Robertson MP, also stated that businesses in Hertfordshire have been awarded contracts to date totalling over £1,147m, up from £54m in November 2009.
Commenting on the news, Anne said:
“I have always maintained that St Albans could play a key role in delivering the Olympics, and these figures show that local businesses are centre stage in the drive towards 2012.
“This is great news, as businesses in St Albans are amongst the most innovative in the country, and their involvement will add a huge amount to the project.
“I hope that as the Olympics draw nearer even more businesses will be able to secure contracts, and play a role in delivering the games.”
