Anne Main MP appointed to House of Commons Panel of Chairs
30th June 2010
Anne Main, MP for St Albans, has been selected to serve on the Panel of Chairs of the House of Commons, a group of 34 senior MPs responsible for chairing Parliamentary debates in Westminster Hall, public bill committees and other committees.
The Panel of Chairs comprises the Deputy Speakers, and other MPs nominated at the beginning of each session by the Speaker. Members are appointed to serve for the life of the Parliament.
Anne said:
“I am delighted to have been selected to this position, which plays a key part in the workings of the Houses of Parliament.”
“I regularly have debates in Westminster Hall, and have sat on many committees, and I know how useful it is to have them well chaired. I should add that this role does not preclude me from speaking in debates or playing a full part in the workings of the House, so I am pleased that I can continue to serve St Albans fully in this way.”
“It is an honour to be appointed to the Panel and I look forward to serving the House in this capacity.”
