Anne Main: Happy New Year 2012
20th December 2011
“I wish all my constituents a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year. I have met many wonderful people who give tirelessly of their talents to volunteer help and support and it was my privilege to host my annual thank you party in Westminster to express my gratitude for all they do.
“As a country we are facing a very tough year and in St Albans we also have our challenges, with shops and businesses struggling and families facing cutbacks. I continue to work with the Council at all levels to help improve our City and District and to speak up in parliament for my constituents, to oppose inappropriate development, and to support green initiatives. This year we had the spectre of an incinerator and a rail freight site hanging over us and I have worked closely with resident groups to oppose them both, sadly another incinerator at Hatfield still looms and I have added my support to the objectors.
“Rail travel continues to be stressful and erratic and I have called on the Minister to consider scrapping Network rail’s licence as they are consistently underperforming and causing major delays to FCC commuter services.
“We must continue to attract investment into St Albans and see a renaissance in our beautiful City centre. In the shared excitement of the 2012 Olympics and with our proximity to London we are well placed to showcase all that St Albans has to offer and I shall do all I can to promote my constituency as a great place to work, live and invest in.”
