Anne Main appointed to new Committee on Energy and Climate Change
19th January 2009
Anne Main has been asked to join the new Energy and Climate Change Select Committee.
Anne Main, MP for St Albans, has been asked to join the new Energy and Climate Change Select Committee, which will meet for the first time on Wednesday (21/01/09).
The Committee is one of a handful of Departmental Select Committees through which Members of Parliament scrutinise the Government on key issues. Anne has been selected due to her work on environmental issues and on the Energy Bill Committee last year.
Anne said:
"I am delighted to have been selected to serve on this new Committee. Since my election, I have spoken out strongly on environmental issues and this appointment will provide me with an excellent platform to take this work directly to the Government. Of course, in this time of economic uncertainty, our priority must be to make sure that our businesses are supported, but this should always be balanced with the green agenda.
Energy and energy security are some of the key issues facing modern Britain. Fuel poverty is also still a huge issue and renewables must be prioritised if we are to meet our obligations. I know from my work on the Energy Bill last year that a clear voice is needed to bring these issues back to the fore. I promise to provide a strong steer on energy and environmental issues to ensure the Government does not duck its responsibilities."

Anne is also a member of the Communities and Local Government Committee
