The £11.6bn hole in Lib Dem’s ‘honest’ manifesto
14th April 2010
Responding to the publication of the Liberal Democrat manifesto, Anne Main, Conservative candidate for St Albans, has highlighted the £11.6bn black hole in the party’s proposals, which could see borrowing increase by £900 million.
Anne said:
“In these difficult economic times, we need to watch every penny, and that’s why it’s such a cause for concern that the Lib Dems policy proposals aren’t properly costed.
“They propose £11.6bn worth of reductions in spending, claiming they have found ways to pay for them, but when we look at the detail it becomes clear that their sums just don’t add up.
“This isn’t the right way to plan for the future. It’s a sad state of affairs that a party who claim they’re ready for Government are misleading the electorate in this way.”
