About Anne Main...
As the newly elected Member of Parliament for St Albans, Anne is enthusiastic, hard-working, and committed to improving the lives of her constituents in and around St Albans City.
Born in 1957 in Cardiff, South Wales, Anne was brought up to believe that hard work and a good education was the route to self-improvement. She graduated with an Honours Degree in English, from Swansea University, where she met her first husband Stephen.
After gaining a postgraduate certificate in Education from Sheffield University, Anne moved into the London area where she taught English and Drama at an inner London Comprehensive.
In 1978 Anne and Stephen married, and three children, Nick, Claire and Jennifer, followed. Stephen sadly died of cancer, aged 34.
In 1995 Anne married Andrew, an IT Director, and she has since had a fourth child, a son called Alexander.
Anne’s political career began back in 1999 when she became a Town Councillor in Beaconsfield, where her main focus and interest was in planning. Finally in 2005, Anne was elected as the Member of Parliament for St Albans.
Having had experience of being a carer, a homemaker, and a single parent with a young family, Anne feels that she can empathise with many of the challenges facing her constituents in their daily lives.
Since being elected in St Albans, Anne has become involved with many charities and organisations in and around her constituency, including becoming patron for a Cancer Charity, and she enjoys taking the time to visit charity, and community, events in the constituency.
